Entry Rquirements For all three levels there are no formal academic entry requirements. However, before beginning any level of Professional Examinations, BCS recommends that students are typically educated to UK GCE A-Level standard or equivalent and are at least 19 years old.
English Language Requirement for the International Students: IELTS: 5.0 (min.) or TOEFL: 213/550/70 or Cambridge Advanced Certificate: Pass or Cambridge Proficiency Certificate: Pass or equivalent or TOEFIC: 785
Course overview Since 1969, Higher Education Qualifications have set the highest standard of professionalism within the industry. Trusted for its independence and integrity, BCS is the only Chartered Engineering Institution for IT professionals which can award an internationally recognised professional qualification.
The three levels of qualification:
- Certificate in IT (Year-1)
- Diploma in IT and (Year-2)
- Professional Graduate Diploma in IT (Year-3)
The modular course structure offers a flexible approach to study that allows you to progress at your own pace, yet the qualifications remain rigorous and challenging to meet the demands of employers and academics alike.
Year 1 - Certificate in IT This is the foundation level of Higher Education Qualifications. Recognition of ACP Courses Since the early 1980s, ACP courses have been taught at training centres in over 60 countries worldwide. For some twenty years, our students have progressed from the ACP Advanced Diploma to undergraduate and postgraduate courses at British universities. Over the past decade, a number of ACP colleges have received university approval to run Bachelor of Science (BSc) computing courses internally at their training centre. This stands testimony to the recognition of ACP's qualifications within the UK education system and the wider world.
On these degree programmes, a student will complete the ACP Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma within two academic years. With appropriate grades in the ACP Advanced Diploma examinations, the student becomes eligible to enrol on the BSc Computing course. This is a twelve month period of study, combined with project work, covering the final year of the degree, at the end of which the successful student is awarded the BSc degree by the university. Of course, the true test of the ACP, as a degree foundation course, is the ultimate successes of our students at the end of their final degree year and the great majority do graduate with honours. An increasing number go on to complete postgraduate studies and attain their MSc degree; others find rewarding employment in reputable commercial and financial institutions and teaching establishments.
The content of ACP's professional syllabuses has, naturally, been influenced by the requirements of universities and employers. The broadly based topics encountered on the BSc have been reflected in ACP's syllabus with increasing emphasis placed upon relational databases, networking, internet applications, e-commerce, object-oriented programming and project management. The development of a student's practical skills, during his/her ACP courses ensures that they are appropriately equipped to enter the workplace upon attainment of their ACP qualification.
Equating the ACP qualification to other The ACP combined Certificate & Diploma qualification equates with either three A Levels; the BTEC National Diploma or the IMIS Diploma and, accordingly, fits into the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) as a Level 4 qualification. The ACP Advanced Diploma equates with Edexcel Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Computing (HND), The IMIS Higher Diploma (new syllabus)/IMIS Graduate Diploma or a foundation degree in computing. As such, it fits into the National Qualications Framework (NQF) at (revised) Level 5.
Progression Route Once attained ACP Advanced Diploma and, with good grades in your final examinations together with a satisfactory performance in relevant coursework assessment and projects, students are eligible to apply for entry to a variety of university programmes.
UK Universities are currently offering a wide range of courses in computing aimed at employment in diverse organisations such as software consultancies, web design consultants, banks and retail wholesale to name but a few. Computer science is one of the fastest growing disciplines in universities and includes exciting developments such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, mobile computing, robotics and the internet.
Undergraduate courses are often multi-disciplinary allowing students to study a range of course dedicated modules as well as option modules. BSc (Hons) courses in areas such as: |
| >> Business Information Systems |
>> Computer Science |
| >> Computer Software Development |
>> E-Commerce |
| >> Interactive Computing |
>> Information Systems |
| >> Multimedia Systems |
>> Software Engineering |
| >> Computer Aided Visualisation |
>> Internet Computing |
| >> Mobile Entertainment |
>> Game Production Management |
| >> Computer Games Technology |
>> Artificial Intelligence |
| >> Computer Animation |
>> Cybernetics |
|
A common course framework If students are not sure what area of computing they want to study, it is not necessarily have to decide straight away. Many awards have a common course framework but differ in relation to the specialist modules that you will focus on in the final year.
How ACP fits into this framework During the ACP Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma programme, you will have developed the core skills essential to enable you to become a flexible, rounded practitioner. Your ACP studies will have equipped you with a sound basis for your later professional development and on which to make your choice of specialism at university or college.
University recognition of your ACP Advanced Diploma Provided you have achieved good grades on the ACP Advanced Diploma course, you will automatically be eligible to enrol on a number of degree courses.
For over 20 years, ACP students have progressed from the Advanced Diploma to undergraduate and postgraduate courses at British universities. More recently, our students have proceeded to Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree studies taught at selected ACP centres - many graduating with first class honours grades.
The ACP Advanced Diploma is also a well-established route to 1-year or 2-year Masters degree (the highest level of full-time study available in the UK). |
